Medicaid[4] is a health insurance facility for low-income families and individuals who cannot afford health care expenses. Medicaid serves children, low-income parents, people with disabilities and seniors. Medicaid may help people by paying for certain medical expenses which includes:

  • Doctor Bills
  • Prescriptions (Excluding prescriptions for Medicare beneficiaries)
  • Dental Care
  • Vision Care

Eligibility Criteria for Medicaid

There are different sections of coverage for people with different requirements. Income and resource limits for each of these sections vary. Following services are offered by Medicaid:

  • Aged, Blind and Disabled
  • Infants, Children and Families
  • Long-Term Care
  • Medicare Recipients
In order to be eligible for Medicaid, you must also have the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of US or provide proof of eligible immigration status.
  • One who resides in North Carolina, and they have to provide proof of residency.
  • One who have a Social Security number or have applied for one.
One is eligible for Medicaid automatically if  one receive any of the following benefits:
  • Work First Family Assistance
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Special Assistance to the Blind
  • State/County Special Assistance for the Aged or Disabled (Adult Care Home Assistance)
To be eligible for Medicaid Physical examination is not necessary.  However, if one is applying because one is disabled, a medical exam may be required. If one is applying in case of pregnancy, proof of pregnancy is essential.
